What is System B? Learn about its features here

In Peru, more and more companies seek to adopt new business modelswhich, in addition to pursuing an economic objective, focus on generating value in the environment in which they carry out their activity, with a positive impact in various areas such as environmental, social, economic, among others.

The B Movement in Latin America began in 2012 and there are already more than 800 Certified B Corps and more than 4,600 worldwide. 50% of B Corps have predominantly female management teams and 63% hire workers from chronically underemployed populations. The total income of B Corps exceeds 130,000 million euros and they employ more than 380,000 collaborators around the world.

In Peru there are already 39 B Corps committed to a sustainable development of the countrywhich are developed in areas such as textiles and jewelry, agriculture and food, environmental management, health, education, tourism, technology, finance, logistics, among others.

In 2022, the entire month of March is an annual celebration called the Month of B Corps, in which its members meet and share experiences about the actions they carry out and how they generate value in all their areas: workers, customers, community and environment.

This year, the central theme of the B Corps Month campaign is “Behind the B”, which aims to showcase the work that goes on behind the scenes, at companies that have decided to rethink the way they do business. Importantly, the number of B Corps increased by 18% from 2020 to 2021.

In this sense, through the most outstanding cases of B Corps in Peru, we can learn about the main characteristics of this type of company.

Textile Manufacturing

The textile industry is known to be one of the most polluting in the world. He is criticized for the use of exorbitant amounts of water to make a garment, the application of chemicals and toxic dyes in the processes.

Empresa B Textil del Valle seeks to change that perspective and show that this industry has the same power to generate a positive impact. For this, it is dedicated to the sustainable manufacture of knitwear using the best Peruvian Pima and Tangüis cotton fibers, and blends of cotton with other fibers such as alpaca, linen, polyester, lycra and others, for some of its clients such as Lacoste. , Patagonia and Lululemon.

They are carbon neutral they use solar panels for the self-generation of 10% of the electricity consumed in the factoryhave a Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), among other benefits.

Feeding

Company B Wasi Organics produces organic snacks, using superfood ingredients that it buys directly from associations of small farmers in the Peruvian highlands and jungle.

The company is certified as 100% organic and seeks to reduce poverty in Peruvian agriculture, paying fair prices and increasing the productivity of farmers with technical assistance, protecting the soil and water.

In this area, we highlight Company B Sinba, who advise restaurants on organic waste recycling and then process it to convert it into animal feed. The objective is to generate innovative options to be able to better use the resources on which it depends. Today, most organic waste is wasted as part of an inefficient and polluting process, and Sinba seeks to reverse this situation.

Regarding B practices and policies, it works with all the actors in the chain, from restaurants and food companies in general, recyclers, and urban farms, to ensure a sustainable cycle that generates well-being.
