Bread price increased in Puno and now it is sold at 4 pieces for S/ 1.00

The price of bread in the city of Puno has increased since last weekenda situation that generated discomfort among the families of the high plateau region.

Now, bread is sold at four units for one sol, when until a few days ago five pieces were sold for the same amount. This increase in daily food was noted in the main markets and in the different stores of the lake city.

The vendors of the warehouses report that from the ovens and bakeries they distribute it at that price. The rise in the price of bread would be due to an increase in the price of flour, since before the COVID-19 pandemic, the 50 kilo sack cost 95 soles; however, it is now selling for 120.

Some bread merchants point out that not only flour has increased, but also other inputs for the preparation such as yeast, butter and others.

Meanwhile, other bread vendors consider that the price of flour increased due to the war between Russia and Ukraine, since they are wheat products that are produced in other countries.

Some buyers indicated that they will seek to replace the food in daily consumption. “Let’s hope that prices are honest, otherwise, we will look for other alternatives to replace daily food,” said Mrs. María Canaza.
