The head of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), Roberto Sánchez, announced that three tourist destinations in Peru have been awarded and recognized in the “Green Destinations Story Awards”, which recognizes the 17 most exemplary and sustainable tourism stories. internationally inspiring.
The selected national destinations are: the Colca Canyon, with the story “Sibayo Rural and Community Tourism” (first place in the Restoration and Recovery of Tourism category); the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, with its history of ecotourism for the conservation of the Selva de los Espejos (second place in the Nature and Ecotourism); and the Tingo María National Park, with its history of sustainable tourism as an alternative to improve the quality of life of the local population (second place in the Location and Decarbonization of the Destination Supply Chain category).
In this regard, the head of the Mincetur indicated that receiving this recognition fills our country with pride and commits the Government, led by President Pedro Castillo, to continue betting on the development of tourism, hand in hand with the communities, local authorities and the private sector, providing adequate conditions and promoting strict compliance with biosafety protocols. He also commented that, through Promperu, Promotion actions will be reinforced for the three winning destinations.
It is important to point out that the winning stories were known at a virtual event held this Friday, March 11, one day after the ITB Berlin Convention, the most important global travel fair and which took place in Germany. In total, 17 world stories were selected as exemplary stories in sustainable tourism.
It is worth mentioning that only the destinations that were part of the Top 100 Green Destinations list could be eligible for the nomination for the 2022 Green Destinations Story Awards, within the framework of the ITB Berlin.
As recalled, in October 2021, a total of nine tourist places in Peru entered the Top 100 list of Green Destinations. Of that number, four managed to enter the ”Green Destinations Story Awards”being finally selected three.
