Tacna: heavy load drivers and taxi drivers show their concern about the rise in fuel

The increase in the price of fuel generates discomfort among drivers from the different regions of Peru. In Tacna, the leader of heavy load transport, Dante Morales Cabreratold La República that the Oil that used to be at S/ 15 or S/ 16, is now sold in some faucets for up to S/ 18 a gallon.

“We are 400 truckers in Tacna. The subject is worrying, but We cannot solve it by thinking of increasing our rates because the population would not resist it either. The Government has to intervene here, with the Petroleum Derived Fuel Price Stabilization Fund, to lessen the damage,” Morales said.

He explained that in the faucets the administrators tell them that the increase is due to the stoppage of activities at the La Pampilla Refinery, by Repsol. To this is added the war in ukraineby which countries of the European Union and the United States have decided not to buy more oil from Russia, which has reduced the supply of that fuel worldwide.

Alfredo Apomayta, a member of the board of directors of the Tacna Regional Front for the Defense of Taxi Drivers, told our media outlet that the increase will undoubtedly affect the rates of mobility services. Taxi drivers reported that the 95-octane gasoline is sold at S/ 20 a gallon and 90-octane gasoline at S/ 19. In the city, a race inside the Cercado did not usually cost more than S/ 4, but since 2021 the standard price is S/ 5.

In the taxi service, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and gasoline are the most used fuels. The LPG has the cost of S/ 10 in the taps of Tacna. ”Gas is reaching a record price, before it was less than five soles. This situation hurts the economy from all sectors,” declared Apomayta.
