This was announced by Isidro Flores Sosa, the president of the Regional Central of Companies and Associations of taxis of Arequipa (Creat), who argued that the 90 octane gasoholwhich is the most used among union members, went from being quoted at 17 to almost 20 soles.

“The increase in rates will depend on each driver, it is very certain that it will increase by 0.50 and 1.00 per service, but what also worries us is that, due to the recession, passengers they are not willing to pay higher prices either,” said Flores Sosa.

In Arequipa, it is estimated that there are 20,000 taxi drivers, who have seen their income progressively reduced for a few months. The leader maintained that as a result of the constant price increases, 50% of his profits were affected, and with the current measure he estimates that it would be 80% of his income.

Since the Government of Pedro Castillo began, said Isidro Flores, fuel has gone from 13 soles to almost 20 soles today. “There is no technical or political handling of these issues,” he asserted.

According to Flores, the situation is complicated for the drivers because the school year and they must buy school supplies, pay pensions, among others.
