Minam: Economic support for those affected by the oil spill will be evaluated every month

The Minister of the Environment, Modesto Montoya, pointed out that the advance that will be given to those affected by the oil spill as part of a compensation of S / 3,000 by Repsol, will not be the only one.

“The agreement is only for an advance to be given to the affected people and that they are on the Single Register, progress that does not mean that it ends there, but rather that each month how the situation evolves will be evaluated and they will be given what is necessary due to the lack of work they have”, he commented in the Special Commission of the Congress of the Republic.

He also stated that the Single Register, prepared with data provided by the Ministry of Production and the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism, includes more than 5,000 people affected by the ecological disaster that occurred in January.

“This registry has generated some protests because there are people who feel not included after being affected, it currently has more than 5,000. Surely each sector is going to review the register and that number is going to increase”, he added.

As for the time it will take for the affected workers to return to their activities, Montoya indicated that it will depend on each sector. “The Vice Ministry of Fisheries, Sanipes and the Ministry of Health will give the green light at the right time for the workers to return,” he stressed.

Finally, in the case of the economic estimates of the environmental impact of the spill, the head of the Minam announced that it will take a few months, “because it requires the analysis of a series of means of the affected area” and until that process is completed, there will be no exact calculation. .

“It is necessary to remember that the damage is complex and the recovery to the previous situation will take years,” he concluded.
