The Mercedes plant in Vitoria-Gasteiz will return to work only three days next week due to the “critical” situation of lack of supplies, so that just like this week only will take place from Wednesday to Friday.
The management of the multinational has communicated this Thursday to the representation of the workers that there are only pieces to work in the three shifts for three days, according to union sources.
Production at Mercedes-Vitoria stopped on Friday, February 25, and since then employees have only come to work on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week. As happened with Saturday the 12th, there will be no work on the 19th either, despite the fact that at the beginning of the month the management had considered activating those two Saturdays (and also March 26) with the intention to recover lost activity. However the “critical supply situation” has made this option impossible.
In this way, in the first three weeks of March, only six days will be worked and the production corresponding to nine days will be lost.
The lack of supply of semiconductors has caused various stoppages in production last year in this company, the largest in the Basque Country, which directly employs some 5,000 people. The previous important stop took place at the end of last year, from December 17 to January 3.
