Streaming services (such as Netflix) would begin to pay IGV

The Minister of Economy and Finance, Pedro Francke, announced that the government will implement mechanisms to collect taxes from the digital economy, which are transforming business models.

He pointed out that given the difficulty of collecting taxes on streaming platforms Netflix, Spotify, Uber, Disney +, the IGV Law will be modified, establishing a collection mechanism for the importation of intangible goods and services provided through the internet by non-domiciled subjects.

“A new sector is not included in the VAT, the rate is not changed, it is simply being considered how we are going to apply this, which is already law in Peru. Peru had never thought about how to charge them ”, he pointed out.

He pointed out that several Latin American countries (Argentina, Mexico, Uruguay, Chile, Colombia) have already established collection mechanisms.

“This implies modernizing ourselves in the face of a digital economy of the future that requires rethinking our tax mechanisms,” said Francke Ballvé.
