Stock market closed 2021 with $15,702 million, 32% more than 2020

The stock market closed in 2021 with $15,702 million, 32% more than in 2020; which represents 15% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), as reported on Wednesday by the Guayaquil Stock Exchange (BVG).

The institution indicated that this growth, registered despite the pandemic, allowed companies from different sectors to access financing under favorable conditions, in terms of terms and interest rates, allowing their development, increased production and the generation of jobs. .

“The positive results show the trust that is being placed in the sector and in the BVG, an institution that contributes to the creation of an ecosystem conducive to stock transactions that is constantly growing and strengthening,” said Ricardo Rivadeneira, president of the BVG. BVG, which negotiated a total of $7,836 million in 2021, denoting an increase of 29% compared to the previous period, and which represents 50% of the national total.

Rivadeneira indicated that for the development of the stock market, it is essential to take into account several factors that promote it, among the most important are: economic-legal stability that provides companies with security to invest; the enactment of laws that give impetus to the market with tax incentives and, as a consequence, the adequate level of supply and demand; that is to say, that there is a significant number of companies registered and that issue papers and, in turn, there are investors interested in said offers.

Meanwhile, for this year the BVG projects sustained growth both in amounts traded and in the number of registered issues.

“We will work to strengthen foreign investment through cross-border stock transactions, develop new products and services with an ecological and sustainable vision, and promote digital transformation in all our processes,” Rivadeneira said.
