As we commemorate today, March 8, the International Women’s Daythe executive president of Indecopi, Julián Palacín Gutiérrez, highlighted the progress achieved by Peruvian women in the field of intellectual property in recent years, specifically in the areas of trademarks, patents and artistic works, which was driven by the work promoter of the institution.
“We are convinced that stimulating and taking advantage of female talent improves the country’s business management. Women, as key economic agents, generate prosperity, employment and are a powerful engine of development”, emphasized Gutiérrez, after announcing the launch of the IP & Gender Network platform, where the actions that each office of the Latin American Network of Intellectual Property and Gender carries out in favor of intellectual property.

In the last seven years, the registration of trademarks by women entrepreneurs had an increase of 136%, going from 2,044 in 2015 to 4,833 in 2021.
Meanwhile, in the registration of collective marks, it went from 25 certificates granted to 12 women’s associations in 2020 to 137 certificates in 2021 to 18 associations.
In the case of female inventiveness, currently, 41% of national patent applications have at least one woman on the inventor teams. Before, only 7% of inventions that applied for patents had the participation of women.
Regarding the registration of artistic works by women, the head of Indecopi stressed that in 2021 a total of 1,464 creative women protected their works, an increase of 167.15%, compared to 2020 (548 records).
