More than $ 8 million in investment announced the Government this Thursday for the prevention of fusarium breed 4 in the country. The fungus, which affects Musaceae crops, has been present in Colombia since 2019 and in Peru since 2021.
Meanwhile, it was reported that the resources will be distributed to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG), through the Phytosanitary and Zoosanitary Regulation and Control Agency (Agrocalidad) and the National Institute of Agricultural Research (INIAP).

In the case of Agrocalidad, $4.8 million will be allocated to be used in the actions included in the contingency plan that are aimed at strengthening the surveillance and diagnosis processes, for early detection of the disease in musaceae crops and control that would be given in case of a possible outbreak of the plague in the country.
For its part, the Iniap has more than $3.3 million destined to reinforce scientific research regarding varieties tolerant to the plague, as well as the development of management technology in Ecuadorian soil.
It was indicated that additionally, the MAG, Agrocalidad and Iniap carry out permanent training activities for producers, technicians, dissemination of biosafety measures and recognition of the characteristic symptoms of the disease, aimed at increasing knowledge about prevention measures by apply and the immediate action protocol in case of suspected presence of the pest in their crops.
