No tariffs will be paid for the importation of goods at the borders of Peru

The Presidency of the Council of Ministers approved this Wednesday a legislative decree that modifies the General Customs Law, in order to help the citizens of the border areas of Peru.

“The content of this decree is to facilitate border populations, with greater contact with populations of another country, by not charging or applying customs duties or tariffs when importing merchandise or goods for their subsistence”, said the head of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF)Oscar Graham.

The official pointed out that this measure will facilitate the life of remote populations, and is given in recognition “of a practice that has been carried out and that we actually facilitate and legalize through this regulation.”

Likewise, Graham explained that the procedures for the entry of foreign merchandise to the Peruvian market will be reduced.

“There is a discrepancy between the time the merchandise was entered and when it actually entered the national market. Much of this merchandise or goods did not enter, but simply were in transit and obviously had to be reported and there is no reason to generate a double procedure: the fact of having to pay and then return the tax. With this we are facilitating foreign trade operations and temporary internment operations”, he summarized.
