Electricity rises almost 35% to 341 euros per MWh, for the first time this year

The price of electricity will be this Thursday at its third highest figure in history. By time bands, electricity will cost 400 euros/MWh between 08:00 and 09:00.

The electricity price in the wholesale market will rise this Thursday 34.44% compared to today and will reach the €341.52 per megawatt hour (MWh) on average daily, the highest so far in 2022.

According to data from the Iberian Market Operator (OMIE), one week after the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the price of electricity will exceed the barrier of 300 euros/MWh for the first time this year and will reach its third highest figure in history.

The average price for tomorrow will be almost 11% cheaper than that of December 23 of last year, when electricity marked its historical maximum, at 383.67 euros/MWh.

By time bands, electricity will cost 400 euros/MWh between 08:00 and 09:00; while its cheapest price will be marked between 23:00 and midnight, then it will cost 260 euros/MWh.

tomorrow’s price will be 74.36% more expensive than that of a week ago and will be six times that registered during the first Thursday of March 2021, when its price was 55.27 euros/MWh.
