Mendia announces that the Social Dialogue Table will meet on March 15

The appointment was postponed at the request of CC. OO. Euskadi. The Minister of Labor and Employment has highlighted the “effectiveness and value” of this forum that brings together the Executive, unions and employers.

The Second Vice-Lehendakari and Minister of Labor and Employment of the Basque Government, Idoia Mendiahas announced for the next March, 15th the meeting of the Social Dialogue Table in the Basque Country, postponed after the CC request. OO. Euskadi, and has vindicated its “effectiveness and value”.

The meeting was scheduled for February 8, but the union asked to postpone it after the PNV voted in the Congress of Deputies against the validation of the Royal Decree of the labor reform law, which, in its opinion, meant an “amendment to the whole” to the state dialogue process. For this reason, he requested to postpone the meeting in order to decide the terms of his participation in the Basque social dialogue process.

In his speech during the conference “Labor reform. A new labor market for economic recovery”, organized by APD and Adecco in Bilbao, Mendia highlighted “the role of social agents in the Basque Country” in agreeing on new programs and new public policies , and has assured that his Department will seek “dialogue and agreements”.

On labour reform, the deputy lehendakari has assured that “it is no longer enough just to reduce unemployment rates, not even create net employment”, but that “the key is in its quality”. “And that is where the labor reform, both in its content and in the agreement of social agents that supports it, reinforces what we have been doing,” she said.

In his opinion, the reform, “as in any consensus of the great, of the transcendent, does not fulfill the ambitions of anyone”, and therefore, “It belongs to no one and it belongs to everyone”.

The Minister of Labor and Employment, who has reviewed the evolution of the labor market in 2021, has assured that “now a new stage is opening” that, “in the midst of the uncertainties, presents great opportunities”, that “it is not only going to measure the job you want to create, but its quality”.

“And it is here, as we have already seen in these first two months, where the usefulness of the labor reform is going to be demonstrated. Because the very high rate of temporary employment, which continues, is a burden on our productive fabric,” he defended. For Mendia, the labor reform “is beginning to show signs of a change in trend” that will be consolidated “when the transitory period ends on next March 31“, because “since then, every contract by definition it will be indefinite“.
