Prediction approved for Osiptel to regulate telephony and internet reconnection rates

The Consumer Defense Commission of Congress unanimously approved the prediction of Bill 893/2021-CR, which proposes that the Supervisory Body for Private Investment in Telecommunications (Osiptel) be the one to regulate the reconnection rates for fixed telephony services , cable, cell phone and internet.

The text of the law indicates that there is currently no uniformity in the reconnection rates between one operator and another and that the companies do not comply with the 24-hour period after payment for reconnection as established by Osiptel regulations. Likewise, it argues that the current costs of the reconnection are between S/10 and S/30, without any approval or regulation.

In addition, it specifies that the new rates will be based on a cost structure that the operating company presents to Osiptel and the user will only be transferred the effective cost of the reconnection.

According to the congresswoman, Lady Camones, author of the bill, the norm will benefit more than 30 million users of cellular lines and 20 million users who use the internet service in Peru.

The prediction that seeks to modify the Law for the development of the functions and powers of Osiptel, received favorable opinions from the Ministry of Transport and Communications, Osiptel, as well as from consumer associations.
