100% capacity: establishments do not comply with protocols

Yesterday was the first day that the establishments began to operate with 100% capacity. The Government’s provision will generate an economic movement of domestic consumption and tourism for more than US$300 million, according to calculations by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur).

However, these spaces must require the use of masks, a KN95 or a double mask if the three-fold surgical mask is used, in addition to the Covid-19 vaccination card that certifies the full doses in those over 18 years of age.

The Republic toured two shopping centers in metropolitan Lima to verify whether these measures are being followed.

there is no distance

At the entrance of the CC Rambla de Brasil, in Breña, the security personnel request the vaccination card from all the people, but not the DNI. Therefore, it is not verified that people over 40 years of age have the booster dose as provided by the authorities.

In the food court at 1:40 pm, we see 70% of tables occupied by groups of between two and three people. As for the distribution of the tables, many did not have even a meter of distance between them. At the exit of the shopping center we talked with some people who commented that they are in favor of the capacity being 100% because this restriction was not met: “I think it is fine because in the end many establishments do not respect the capacity, that has been seen at parties, for example, all the places packed. In the lines that are formed I see that there is more order, but the social distance of one and a half meters practically does not exist, ”said a user.

The pantomime of the card

With a blank piece of paper or another person’s vaccination card, you could enter the Mega Plaza. In the only access route, security personnel demand the document, but do not verify the information.

“You can enter showing anything,” says one woman.

It is a little after 2:00 pm on the first day without capacity limits in the establishments. Dozens of people enter the shopping center located in Independencia, even with a single simple mask, contravening what the regulations published on Sunday say. Nobody supervises.

In the corridors there are people with the mouth cover under the nose or on the chin. Some walk with impudence in front of the security men, who look at them out of the corner of their eyes, in silence.

Inside, in most stores, the situation is the same. In the supermarket they demand the vaccination card and they do not verify it either. Among the shelves, some customers circulate with the mask incorrectly placed and there is no staff that requires them to use them correctly.

Meanwhile, in the places that sell clothes they are stricter, they demand the vaccination card and the DNI. They compare the data and just let the customer in.

In the food court, the tables keep their distance, but in the queues to place the orders, the clients gather, they do not obey the marks placed on the floor. A loud voice that repeats from time to time that the minimum distance is two meters is the only one that reminds them that they must stay apart, that there is still covid.

Measure to reactivate the economy

The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Roberto Sánchez, highlighted that the issuance of Supreme Decree No. 016-2022-PCM is a great step for the economic reactivation of the country, by expanding the capacity to 100% in all activities, both in closed and open places.

An important announcement that will allow to reactivate the economy and billing of the commerce, tourism, shows, restaurants, entertainment offer, among others, “said the minister yesterday.
