Every day that passes, the works of the third stage of Chavimochic, by continuing to be paralyzed while waiting for the arbitration award between the grantor, which is Midagri, and the concessionaire, the Brazilian construction company Novonor (ex-Odebrecht) in Peru, not They only generate economic losses, but also 100,000 paralyzed jobs, income from taxes to the State, among other consequences.
The representatives of the agro-industrial sector made known all these adverse situations that they have to face, since in terms of benefits the culmination of the project will benefit 124,000 agro-industrial workers, small and medium farmers, and the 500,000 families linked to the sector.
Among the alternatives to unlock the project, it was proposed that the State and the concessionaire reach an agreement, through dialogue, and request to extend the term for the reading of the arbitral award. In this way, a consensus can be reached and a paralysis of the project for another 7 to 10 years will be avoided.
It must be taken into account that in the first and second stages there are 25,000 hectares in production, which have given work to 124,000 people. However, due to the paralysis that has lasted five years, there are 18,000 uncultivated hectares, 100,000 frozen jobs and S / 2,200 million not generated by salary payments.
“If decisions are not made in the coming weeks, the horizon of completing this work will probably be very long and expensive for Peru. In just three years, 3,000 million dollars have not been received, which are investment losses; 1,500 million dollars have not been generated annually through the agro-export of products. On average, there are S/ 3,700 million in salaries that boost the country’s economy,” the director of the Association for Sustainable Agricultural Development, Yuri Armas, told the press.
