Metalworking exports exceeded US$563,872,000 in 2021. The figure represents a growth of 21.6% compared to the previous year, when it reached US$463,715,000. The increase is due to increased demand from countries in the region, according to the Association of Exporters (ADEX).
However, there is still a setback of -1.5% compared to 2019, before the pandemic, when US$572,668,000 was added. In this regard, ADEX points out that the result “shows that this item has not yet fully recovered after two years complicated by the global health crisis.”
“They also did not reach the historical maximum amounts of 2014 (US$ 599,357,000) and 2018 (US$ 594,533,000)”, details the central export manager, Ysabel Segura.
Main destinations of metalworking exports in 2022
According to ADEX, in 2021 metalworking shipments reached a total of 107 countries. The main destinations were Chile (US$ 120 million 9,000), the most important, concentrating 21.3% of the total, increasing its demand by 32%. In second place was the US (US$ 100 million 224,000), which decreased its orders by -1.5% and concentrated 17.8%.
It was followed by Ecuador (43.5%), Bolivia (36.1%), Colombia (12%), Mexico (48.9%), Brazil (8.6%), Argentina (154.7%), Panama ( 63.3%) and the Dominican Republic (32.9%).
As for the items, self-propelled drilling or drilling machines was the main one, reaching US$ 29,12,000, increasing its orders by 46%. Others were the other parts of machines, parts of machines and apparatus, framed glass lead electric accumulators, plugs or covers, among others.
