The Regional Council of Arequipa will debate on Friday, February 25, the approval of addendum 13 of the Majes Siguas II project and, given that there is no consensus to give it the green light, the universities of the region They issued a statement calling on the authorities to act responsibly.

The university authorities point out that the signing of addendum 13, under current conditions, is the only way that makes the execution of the Majes Siguas II project viable.

They called on it to review the grounds for which they have not raised the observations made by the Comptroller regarding the aforementioned addendum. “We believe that a gesture of goodwill on your part can also collaborate in unlocking such an important investment.

The rectors indicated that Majes Siguas ll is a long-awaited project in Arequipa, that would mean the generation of 145,000 formal jobs and exports for 1,000 million dollars per year, which means 13% of the GDP of Arequipa and 0.7% of the national GDP, according to the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF).
