The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), through Provías Nacional, signed the contract to prepare the environmental study for the new Central Highway project. In addition, in the next few days the contract for the execution of the traffic and socioeconomic study will be signed.
It should be noted that the objective of the new four-lane highway, which will decongest the current Central Highway, is to optimize the transport of passengers and products between the coast and the center of the country, and will boost the economy.
The environmental study will provide information on the impacts of the future work on the environment. Meanwhile, the traffic and socioeconomic study will allow a diagnosis to be made of the number of vehicles that will circulate on the road. In addition, it includes the analysis of the social and economic variables of the area of influence of the road, such as the number of beneficiaries and the jobs that will be generated.
The two files mentioned, as well as the archaeology, geotechnical and topography studies, are part of the revision and optimization study of the profile of the new Central Highway.
The project for this mega-work is the responsibility of the French Government’s Project Management Office (PMO), with which the MTC signed the State-to-State contract to receive technical assistance for the execution of the work.
