Azpiazu: “The European funds received are far from what should correspond to us”

The Minister of Economy and Finance of the Basque Government assures that there is an “urgent” need for these resources to land in the Basque productive fabric. Today Euskadi has received 665.4 million euros, 3.9% of the total.

The Minister of Finance and Economy, Pedro Azpiazú, has affirmed that the European funds received today in Euskadi are “far from the funds that should correspond to us”, Azpiazu affirmed. Thus, he has made it clear urgency that these resources land in the Basque productive fabric.

Azpiazu has appeared before the Basque Parliament’s Committee on Economy, Finance and Budgets to report on the status of european funds from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Mechanism -MRR-.

Until December 31, 2021, the General State Administration had distributed 17,163 million euros to the Autonomous Communities for the period 2021-2023. Of these, the Basque Country received 665.4 million euros. “3.9% of the totalwhich, in our opinion, is far from the funds that should correspond to us given our weight in the State as a whole”, Azpiazu stated.

For this reason, he added, “it is to be expected” that the participation of the Basque Country in the distribution of funds “grows substantially between now and the end of the period”.

If the Basque Country is assigned 3.9% of the total, as has been done in 2021, it would correspond to 340 million, but “if the amount were equal to its population weight (4.7%), it would rise to 407 million” , has exposed the counselor.

In this sense, Azpiazu has claimed that “it is urgent that the European resources managed through these tools land imminently, as quickly as possible, in the productive fabric”.
