The President of the Republic, Pedro Castillo Terrones, and the Minister of Energy and Mines, Carlos Palacios Pérez, participated in the start-up of the soup kitchen number 450, which already has a free connection to natural gas. This thanks to the BonoGas Program for social institutions, financed by the Energy Social Inclusion Fund (FISE)which is managed by the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM).
“The process of massification of natural gas is one of the main tasks initiated by this government, so it is satisfying to know that thousands of households have already benefited from this support that we provide. With this dining room we reach the figure of 450, and we have projected that by the end of the year we will reach a thousand popular kitchens with a free natural gas connection”, said the head of the MINEM.
However, the previous administration, of former Minister Jaime Gálvez, had already made that projection for the end of 2021.
The favored soup kitchen is the “Hermano Mayor Cosmovisión” in the district of Ventanilla (Callao), which is managed by seven mothers from the area, who distribute between 80 and 100 daily food rations. Before they used between 4 to 5 gas cylinders per month and now their spending has been reduced to less than half.
The authority stated that the BonoGas Program is not only in Lima and Callao, but also reaches residents of the regions of La Libertad, Ica, Lambayeque, Áncash, Cajamarca, Arequipa, Moquegua and Tacna. Precisely, he announced that in the next few days the first soup kitchen in the interior of the country with this type of benefit will be inaugurated.
It was noted that access to natural gas is a public service to which all Peruvians are entitled, because not only promotes savings, but also allows access to a better quality of life in familiesespecially those with limited economic resources.
Other benefits are that soup kitchens now have access to the use of cleaner, more efficient and cheaper energy. “With the use of natural gas, food can be prepared with less polluting energy than firewood or liquid fuelswhich allows to avoid the appearance of respiratory diseases, among those who work in popular kitchens”, he concluded.
Also present at the inauguration was the Minister of Development and Social Inclusion (MIDIS) and Vice President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte.
