The unemployment rate at the national level, in January 2022, grew to 5.4%, that is, 458,573 people do not have a job of any kind in the country; a figure higher than that presented in December 2021, which was 356,725 people (4.1% of the economically active population).
The percentage of unemployment as of last January is slightly higher than that of January 2021, which stood at 5.3%, according to the results of the National Survey of Employment, Unemployment and Underemployment (Enemdu), published this Tuesday by the National Institute Statistics and Census (INEC), which collected data last January in 9,016 homes nationwide.
Full employment positions were reduced by 106,651 (3.65%) in the last month; that is, that number of people who until last December had a suitable job now no longer have it. Until the last month of 2021 there were 2,919,910 people and in January they dropped to 2,813,259.
Underemployment, due to insufficient income or insufficient working time, also decreased between December 2021 and January 2022, with a reduction of 52,525 jobs (2.66%).
At least 344,833 new suitable jobs were generated between October 2020 and October 2021, according to INEC data
The percentage of people with adequate employment, according to the survey, stood at 33.1% in January 2022, while in December of last year it was 33.9%.

Meanwhile, the percentage of underemployment stood at 22.6% (1,923,563 people) last month against 23% in December of the previous year (1,976,088 people).
In other non-full employment is 25.8% of the economically active population (2,195,548 people) and 12.5% (1,067,315 people) are in unpaid employment. In this last classification there was an increase of 141,260 people between last December and January. While 46,835 people were placed in unclassified employment.
The unemployment rate in the urban area was 7.4% in January 2022, higher than that presented in December 2021, which was 5.3%, and also higher than that of January 2021, which was 6 .9%.
