The head of the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri), Óscar Zea Choquechambi, assured that the companies that make up the dairy industry in Peru should pay the same price for domestic fresh milk as they do for imported dairy.
“Here we have a monopoly that imports milk from other countries at S/ 2 a liter when national producers are paid half for fresh milk; at least, they (the industry) should collect the milk within Peru with the same price that they import,” the official told the Surco Norteño program in Chiclayo.
The official’s statements came after the announcement by the Association of Dairy Farmers of Peru (Agalep) of a national strike for next March 15 to demand the price they receive for fresh milk from large dairy companies.
Likewise, in said space, he showed his solidarity for the struggle of the dairy farmers of the country, for which he said that everything that is in the hands of his portfolio will be directed to give a solution to the fair claim of the producers.
Agalep calls for a national strike
Through a statement, the president of the Association of Dairy Farmers of Peru (Agalep), Nivia Vargasreported that a national strike will be held on March 15, as a protest measure, it is a drastic and desperate action in the face of the indifference of the dairy industry companies (Gloria, Laive, Nestlé), whom they hold responsible for the consequences of this decision. .
“Last weekend, the Gloria company has responded to our demand, but with an insufficient proposal (approximately S/ 0.04 cents) that discriminates against small farmers and is unsustainable (it does not go to the base price, that is, they can withdraw it at any time),” he said.
The leader indicated that the approach of her representative is to receive S / 1.80 as the base price per liter of milk for all farmers.
