Living a different experience from the air and observing the landscapes of Ecuador is the service provided by Kawsay Balloonsa company established three years ago, but operating since 2020.
They are within the aeronautical category and are registered as a travel agency. They also have a certification from the Directorate of Civil Aviation (DAC).
It started months after the start of the pandemic, achieving good acceptance at the local level and is now taking flight alongside brands and shopping malls.
Ecuador could earn $120 million annually from wedding tourism; promotion is still lacking, say business owners
Daniel Hernandez, general manager of Kawsay Balloons, affirms that they have managed to maintain themselves thanks to national tourism. “We started in September 2020 to offer operations. We have had people interested. With the reactivation, this pandemic situation has been improving and we hope to have more influx of foreign tourism. But, with national tourism we have maintained ourselves”, he explains.
In 2020 they made approximately 250 flights and in 2021 about 500.
They have two modes of flight: captive and free. The first corresponds to hot air balloon flight packages for marriage proposals, birthdays and anniversaries. And in free flights is any other event.
For example, they recently took a walk in the San Juan sector in Quito and observed the Historic Center. The trips last between 15 to maximum 40 minutes.

“This lends itself a lot to tourism and romance,” says Hernández. And that is exactly where Kawsay Balloons has caught the interest of other companies, with whom it has participated in contests for Valentine’s Day.
This is the case of Quicentro Shopping, Mall del Jardín and Etafashion. With Quicentro, through consumption for $25 and presenting these bills, users participated in hot-air balloon flights. With Mall del Jardín it is the same consumption mechanism and they added a stay at Cabañas del Lago. And with Etafashion for purchases starting at $30, they also gave away these balloon rides.
According to Hernandez, These companies contacted him through social networks, thus generating greater reliability.
Businesses bet on the ‘giveaways’ for Valentine’s Day to make customers fall in love
“We have generated a lot of content on social networks, we have kept ourselves informed. All the companies that contact us realize this and with that confidence that it is a serious and supported and certified company, they choose to contact us”, he indicates.
In addition, he mentions that companies also seek to promote their brand in safe products or services. “We have formed this image and we have tried to maintain it and it has attracted brands”, he maintains.
Hernández points out that insurance companies and banks have also contacted them both for contests for the month of love and friendship, as well as for VIP clients or insurance brokers.
And these are part of the corporate packages that Kawsay Balloons offers, which does not only consist of flights. For example, having the hot air balloon anchored in an advertising activation.
According to Hernández, they wait in six months bring another balloon and thus add two and expand. Also give the service to the Coast. “The geography allows as there are not many mountains. In the future we are analyzing expanding on the Coast”, he points out. (I)
