Total formal employment at the national level grew 5.4% in December 2021, in relation to the same month of 2020, with this it accumulated an advance of 3.9% in the last year, reported the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP). ).

“With this result in the last month of 2021, a recovery trend continued for the ninth consecutive month,” says the BCRP.

Compared to the last month of 2019, the level of employment increased 1.9%, while the total advance compared to the year before the pandemic was 0.3%.

In the private sector, the recovery of formal jobs during December of last year reached 7.0% in relation to the same month of 2020. The result allowed an accumulated 4.2% compared to 2020. Meanwhile, compared to 2019 , private sector jobs increased 0.1%, while making the monthly comparison to December it fell -2.3%.

The sectors with the highest increase in jobs were mining and services, with year-on-year growth of 11.3% and 8.3%, respectively.

Finally, the BCRP indicates that the wage bill rose 10.1% in the last month of 2021. According to the monetary authority, “growth is associated with the improvement in private sector income and the increase in jobs job”.

The annual increase was 10.8% compared to the previous year and 6.0% compared to the figure two years ago.
