Moquegua surpasses Lima in average mobile internet speed

According to the Mobile Internet Monitoring Panel of the Supervisory Body for Private Investment in Telecommunications (Osiptel), only six regions were above the national average for mobile internet speed and eleven increased their results compared to what was reported in December.

For the first time in the measurement, a region surpassed the speed of Lima and ranked second with the best national speed result. Thus, Moquegua scored 11.39 Mbps (megabit per second), higher average speed than Lima (11.35 Mbps), but below Callao (11.53 Mbps). In contrast, the regions with the lowest performance were San Martín (9.21 Mbps), Huancavelica (8.94 Mbps) and Loreto (7.45 Mbps).

Mobile Internet: two operators compete for the highest performance in 4G speed in January

Likewise, the competition thermometer for download speed (download) in Peru’s mobile internet service marked 10.49 Mbps on average for 4G networks in the first month of the year.

The operating companies Entel and Claro obtained the best average performance in January with 11.40 Mbps and 11.36 Mbps, respectively, above Movistar (10.29 Mbps) and Bitel (7.34 Mbps). According to the information compiled by the tool, Bitel and Movistar increased their monthly result compared to December by 0.15 Mbps and 0.04 Mbps, each. Meanwhile, Claro maintained the same average, while Entel fell 0.13 Mbps.

Improved mobile internet latency performance in January

Latency performance (an indicator that analyzes whether online content is accessed with more or less delay) at the national level decreased again in favor of users to an average of 98.76 ms (milliseconds) for 4G networks.

The operating company with the best performance in the indicator was Entel, with a latency of 78.36 ms, lower than that of Bitel (86.63 ms) and Movistar (93.85 ms). On the other hand, Claro was the operator with the lowest performance with 117.77 ms.

Eight regions showed a better result than the national average. Thus, Lima (90.68 ms), Callao (91.25 ms) and Ica (91.77 ms) were the ones that best positioned themselves in the indicator. Simultaneously, Loreto (118.76 ms), Madre De Dios (116.21 ms) and San Martín (115.08 ms) were the regions with the lowest performance.

Data packet loss rate is shortened

The packet loss rate (a parameter whose poor performance can cause the interruption of a data session or that we receive or send information in videoconferences, for example, with delays or incompletely) at the national level was reduced to 1.66% in the analysis period.

The operating company Entel obtained the best performance at the national level, with a packet loss of 1.12%, unlike Claro (1.52%), Movistar (1.73%) and Bitel (2.73%). Meanwhile, twelve regions obtained a better packet loss rate than the national average.

The regions with the best performance were Callao (1.09%), Lima (1.19%) and Tumbes (1.26%); while the regions with the lowest performance were Loreto (11.67%), Ayacucho (2.33%) and Ancash (2.20%).
