In 2021, 99,940 tons of fresh pineapple fruit for export were certified phytosanitary, which meant 17% more fruit sent to international markets than in 2020, according to figures from the Phytosanitary and Zoosanitary Regulation and Control Agency (Agrocalidad).

The entity highlighted that last year 2,850 shipments were made to 18 destinations worldwide, where markets such as Chile, the Netherlands, the United States, Argentina, Germany, New Zealand and Russia stand out; as those with the largest amount of fruit shipped, although at the moment there are established phytosanitary requirements so that fresh pineapple fruit can be exported to 38 different countries.
The agency indicated that it maintains the registry of 34 pineapple production sites for export, where post-registration controls are carried out to monitor and verify the general phytosanitary conditions of the production sites.

100 collection centers are also registered, on a national scale, where the fruit is inspected and shipments around the world are prepared. Pichincha (28), Guayas (24), Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas (16) and Los Ríos (11) are the provinces with the most centers.
