The Osakidetza unions remain firm in their decision to maintain the strike days

Union delegates have been contracted this Wednesday in front of the Basque hospitals a few days after the called strikes. They see no reason to suspend the call.

The Osakidetza unions see no room to call off the strikes on February 25 in Primary Care and on the 28th of the same month in the public health system as a whole. They have also warned that if there is no real negotiation there will be more demonstrations.

Union delegates from Satse, ELA, LAB, CCOO and UGT gathered this Wednesday in front of the hospitals in Santiago (Vitoria-Gasteiz), Cruces (Bizkaia) and San Sebastián, as well as in various health centers in the Basque Country a few days before the strikes called.

The unions have unfurled a banner that read “For decent working conditions“next to the emergency room of the Santiago hospital, a service that has recently been closed for citizens except in cases in which the sick are referred by ambulances or by doctors.

Gabriel Perezspokesman for Satse, has denounced that they will not allow Basque healthcare to be “destroyed” and has demanded that public spending be equal to 7% of GDP and that a quarter of it be allocated to Primary Care.

From LAB, Jesus Onate lamented Osakidetza’s lack of willingness to negotiate and recalled that the last agreement was signed 11 years ago without the Basque Government having the will to review it.

The unions have once again called on the citizens to join the strikes and claim their health rights.
