The Department of Economic Development, Sustainability and the Environment will hold telematic information sessions on February 23, 24 and 25 to explain to companies the content of the 74 programs of the aid plan.
The Minister for Economic Development, Sustainability and the Environment, Arantxa Tapia, presented this Wednesday the aid plan for SMEs 2022, which includes 74 programs with a budget of €590 million.
more than 70% of aid will be allocated to R&D&i programs (257.5 million euros) and to the Energy Transition (160.2 million) and are complemented by contributions to investments in the industry (85 million), internationalization (19,950,000 euros) and the promotion of the economy and employment in rural and coastal areas (66,790,000 euros).
The main function of this aid is to “reactivate the economy and generate employment, promoting inclusive and sustainable development of the business fabric of Euskadi”, assured the Minister. “The ultimate goal is to reinforce an inclusive and sustainable economic model,” she added.
According to data from the Department, last year, the Basque Government’s Aid Plan for SMEs managed to promote 8,096 projects with a total investment of 2,059 million euros. The starting point was 68 aid programs with an investment of 430 million euros.
On this occasion, the Plan contemplates 74 aid programs and an initial investment of 589,629,224.04 euros. On February 23, 24 and 25, telematic information sessions will be held where companies will be able to find out the details of each program and find the one that best suits their needs.

The Deputy Minister of Technology, Innovation and Competitiveness, Estibaliz Hernáez, together with directors from her area, will explain the research, innovation, digital transformation and entrepreneurship programs on February 23. The aim is to strengthen the position of the Basque Country as a European innovation hub, increase the creation of technology companies by 10% and position the Basque Country as a tractor ecosystem for international startups that collaborate with local industry.
The Deputy Minister for Industry, Mikel Amundarain, and the Deputy Minister for the Environment, Amaia Barredo, along with other people responsible for the department, will present aid for industrial development, internationalization, energy efficiency and renewables, and the environment on February 24. These programs seek for industry and advanced services to reach 40% of GDP and for the share of renewable energies to represent 20% of final energy consumption.
In addition, it is about reducing the emission of greenhouse gases by 30%, lowering the generation of waste and increasing its recovery and reuse, implementing the environmental strategy as a cross-cutting policy and improving the environmental indicators of water, soil and air, in greater defense and respect for biodiversity.
Lastly, on February 25, the Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Policy, Bittor Oroz, will present aid to the first sector, the food industry and sustainability. With these programs, the aim is to increase food production in the Basque Country, and guarantee a greater territorial balance, providing quality of life for people who live and work in rural and coastal areas.
