At the end of 2021, twelve provinces of the country registered sales higher than those of 2019, pre-pandemic year. The Chamber of Commerce of Quito (CCQ) details that there are six provinces in the Coast region (Santo Domingo, Los Ríos, Guayas, El Oro, Manabí and Santa Elena), four in the Sierra (Bolívar, Cañar, Azuay and Loja) and two from the East (Zamora Chinchipe and Sucumbíos).
Between January and December 2021, Zamora Chinchipe and El Oro they achieved growth of 52.9% and 7.3% compared to the same period in 2019. The rest of the provinces achieved increases in the order of 0.2% and 7.1% comparing the same periods.

by cantonsOn the other hand, Machala was the one that registered the most growth (7.4%), followed by Cuenca and Manta. Quito and Ambato, although they exceed what they reached in 2020, have not yet recovered to the levels of before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sales by economic activity
On a national scale, as recorded by the CCQ, 6 of 23 sectors show sales growth from 2021 in relation to what was achieved in 2019:
- Commerce closed the year with $71,345 million in sales, 2.6% more compared to 2019.
- Manufacturing industries reached $25,793 million, growth of 4%.
- Agriculture, Livestock and fishing it closed with sales of $12,098 in 2021.
- health care activities it had sales of $4.775 million last year.
- Supply of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning generated $1,116 million in sales between January and December 2021, 4.6% more than in 2019.
- Water distribution, sewage, waste management and sanitation activities recorded sales of $547 million, 13% more than in 2019.
Among the sectors that have not yet managed to recover to pre-pandemic levels are the arts, accommodation, public administration and education.
The initial estimate of the Quito Chamber of Commerce by the end of 2022 is that private sales in Ecuador reach a growth rate of 5.7% compared to 2021. That is, the estimate in value would be $169,267 million, about $9,080 million more than what was recorded in the year previous ($ 160,187 million). (I)
