Colombia expects economic growth in 2021 above 10.2%, according to Duque

President Ivan Duke projected that the Colombian economy would have grown above 10.2% in 2021, thus exceeding expectations to the point of reaching the highest historical figure for that country.

During the signing of the Joint Declaration for a Dialogue on the Environment, Climate Action and Sustainable Development of the European Commission, in Brussels, Belgium, Duque said that this recovery of GDP “shows our resilience and it is important to say that it is growth with sustainability”.

“In 2021, the Colombian economy grew by more than 10.2%. This means that we have achieved the greatest economic growth in our history”, said the head of state, who has been on a tour of Europe since last week.

The president added that “we have worked with our team from the Ministry of Finance and also with the team from the Presidency of the Republic and we have evaluated the figures for December.”

Meanwhile, the official figure will be revealed this Tuesday by the National Administrative Department of Statistics (Dane).

“Today we share with the Colombian people one of the best news we have received in a long time,” insisted the President of the Republic, Iván Duque.

After this announcement and in dialogue with RCN Radio, the Minister of Finance, José Manuel Restrepo, assured that the new projection of economic growth is related to the recovery of employment and the positive behavior of sectors such as industry and commerce.

“We updated our economic growth forecast and we have seen how it has been increasing, because when we put together the Medium-Term Fiscal Framework we expected 6%, then in the middle of the semester we said it would be 8%, in December we announced a growth of 9.7% and now we make this new projection”, he stressed.
