China and India are the main destinations for Peruvian copper and gold

The Ministry of Energy and Mines reported that the value of copper exports, between January and November 2021, amounted to US$ 18,863 million, which reflected a growth of 64.4% compared to the same period in 2020 (US$ 11,473 million).

The institution specified that the result is due to the greater volume of exported copper and the increase in its international price. He also confirmed that the red metal continues to be, by far, the main Peruvian export product.

China was consolidated as the main recipient of copper exports from Peru with a 70.4% share, which was driven by higher shipments made to the Asian giant. It was followed by Japan with 6.8% of the total exported and South Korea with 6.5%.

In the case of gold, exports, between January and November 2021, totaled US$9,208 million, which was reflected in a growth of 31.5% in the year-on-year comparison (US$7,003 million).

India was the main destination for shipments of the gold metal with a 27.5% share of the total exported between January and November. It was followed by Canada with 26.6% of the total and Switzerland, the main gold refining center in the world, with 23.5%, reported the Minem.
