Mining exports reached US$ 36,698 million between January and November 2021

The last Mining Statistical Bulletin (BEM) of the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) revealed that, between January and November 2021, the export of mining products reached US$ 36,698 million, making it the highest historical figure. This result also reflected an increase of 56.6% compared to the same period in 2020.

In detail, copper shipments grew 64.4% in the year-on-year comparison; those of gold, 31.5%; those of zinc, 7.3%; those of silver, 25.5%; those of lead, 35.5%; those of tin, 130.6%; and those of iron and molybdenum reached an increase of 127.1%.

The BEM highlighted that mining is the main contributor to the national trade balance with a 64.6% share in exports national: mining-metallic products (63.5%) and non-metallic (1.1%).

The main mining-metallic products are copper, gold, zinc and lead, which together represented 56.6% of total national exports between January and November of the previous year and 87.7% of mining exports.

In November 2021 alone, mining exports (metallic and non-metallic) totaled US$3,855 million, a figure that represented a significant growth of 37.8% compared to the same month of the previous year.

In this regard, the Minem specified that this performance was mainly due to the high international prices of metals and the growth of the world demand.
