Chicken price drops in Metropolitan Lima

In the Unicachi market in Villa el Salvador the price of a whole chicken is S/ 5.00, while in Villa María del Triunfo and Lurín it costs around S/ 6.50 per kilo. On the other side of the city, in Ventanilla, a kilo of whole chicken costs S/ 7.20, in the neighboring district of Los Olivos, ASCAI market, its price reaches S/. 7.00.

These data collected according to citizen perception regarding chicken prices that in January varied between S/ 7.00 and S/ 8.00.

Although the latest report from the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) indicates that inflation in January was 0.04%, this has not been reflected in chicken or bread, which are the products consumed daily in Metropolitan Lima. so far in February.

Other products of the basic family basket such as the Yungay white potato cost S/ 2.50 per kilo in Villa María del Triunfo and Villa El Salvador. Meanwhile, the prices of red onions and lemons remain in comparison with last month in these southern districts of Lima, trading at S/ 2.00 and S/ 4.00 per kilo, respectively.

In Ventanilla, the red onion costs between S/ 1.00 and S/ 1.50, the tomato has a value of S/ 1.30 to S/ 1.50 per kilo and the white potato at S/ 1.20. Other vegetables such as carrots (S/ 1.50), squash (S/ 2.00) and tied spinach (S/ 1.50 and S/ 1.80) also maintain their prices.

In addition, other products such as eggs and toilet paper are increasing in price compared to January. The egg that cost S/. 4.80 now reaches S / 6.00. The 4-unit package of toilet paper went from costing S/ 5.00 to S/ 7.50 and S/ 8.00, according to a housewife from Villa El Salvador.

The INEI report indicates that in January, eggs and paper increased their prices by 1.0% and 0.6%, respectively, which confirms that this trend will continue in the first days of February.
