Analysis by the Quito Chamber of Commerce shows that a positive trend has continued since March 2021, although to a lesser extent.
Sales follow the trend of gradual recovery and waiting to match pre-pandemic levels.
A report from the Quito Chamber of Commerce indicates that last August monthly private sales grew by 20.3% in relation to the same month in 2020. This is “an important recovery (but) they are still far from reaching the levels of 2019 in monetary terms ”.
Thus, August is the sixth month to record a positive variation in domestic sales in the country. “It took thirteen months for a recovery in the billing of the private sector in annual terms,” the analysis indicates. The positive trend continues since March 2021, although to a lesser extent and with an estimate that sales for December 2019 can be reached by the end of the year.
Non-oil shipments grew 9% until August, but the logistics crisis worries the export sector
Sales were $ 136,692 million in all of 2020, which represented a decrease of 15.9% compared to 2019. On the other hand, for the period from January to August of this year, they reached $ 99,357 million, a growth of 19, 7% compared to the same period in 2020.
That growth is seen as the positive. The surprise, according to the Chamber’s analysis, was the accumulated variation in the sales of natural persons, which reached a percentage of 12.2%.
Private sales are made up of the set of invoices from companies, individuals and the Popular and Solidarity Economy (EPS) sector.
Comparing the level of sales in the eight months of 2021 with the same period of 2019, the fall is 3.9%, which is equivalent to about $ 4.4 billion. In Quito it is 8.3%, but in Guayaquil the decrease is lower: 1.9%.
Before the EU, Ecuador proposed to reach a GDP rate of 5% by 2022 and sign investment projects for $ 30,000 million in the next four years
The commerce sector registers a reduction of 1.1% and in manufacturing it falls 0.1%. This based on the year before the pandemic.
This year has been better if compared to 2020, since the 19.7% recovery in sales implies that in Quito the growth was 21.1% and in Guayaquil, 17.6%. The commerce sector recovered by 21.1% in sales and manufacturing by 22.9%.
Although a recovery of 15.4% is estimated for the end of 2021; When comparing the estimate with the value registered at the end of 2019, a decrease of -2.9% can be seen. In other words, despite the recovery this year, the prepandemic sales levels have not yet been reached, the Chamber’s analysis indicates. (I)
