The president of Bolivia, louis arce, announced the discovery of reserves that exceed 300 billion cubic feet of natural gas in the Margarita-Huacaya field, located in the southern regions of Tarija and Chuquisaca.
“We are finding gas reserves in this well that we explore in our management in the order of 300 to 350 billion cubic feet,” said the president.
According to Yacimientos Petroliferos Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB), this well will be the largest producer of natural gas in the plurinational highland state, given that It has a potential production of 3 million cubic meters per day and it is estimated that it will generate annual income of more than US$ 260 million.
Armin Dorgathen, president of YPFB, stressed that, since drilling began through Repsol, “every precaution was taken to confirm this good news for the Bolivian people.”
“YPFB and Repsol are making their best efforts to make this production available to the markets in the shortest time possible,” Dorgathen noted.
It is worth emphasizing that Bolivia has natural gas as its main export product and its greatest economic support in the last two decades, with Argentina and Brazil as its main markets.
At the end of 2021, Bolivian gas production was 45.6 million cubic meters per day, a figure relatively higher than the 43.4 million in 2020.
