the mining company Antamina was responsible for the production of 34.8% of the zinc production in Peru in 2021, according to the Mining Statistics Bulletin (BEM) of the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem).
According to the document, national zinc production increased 14.8% in that period, compared to the previous year.
This positive scenario was mainly due to the better performance of Volcan Compañía Minera SAA (+24.9%), which reported its highest production level in December 2021 (14,569.5 TMF). Despite this, there was an interannual decrease of 19.2% in total production in the country in that month.
In this sense, the successful production of Antamina was followed globally by the operations of Volcan Compañía Minera SAA and Nexa Resources Perú SAA, with shares of 9.3% and 7.0%, respectively.
It should be noted that the Ancash region led the ranking as the main source of zinc in the entire territory, with a contribution of 37.8% of the total.
For their part, Junín and Lima ranked second and third with 17.3% and 13.9%, respectively.
