BCRP: financial system and analysts reassess their GDP forecast for 2022 upwards

Economic analysts and the financial system raised their GDP growth projections for this year, in line with the dynamism of economic activity observed during the first three quarters of 2021, the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP).

This information was shared through the recent “Report of the Monthly Survey of Macroeconomic Expectations: January 2022″, which brings together forecasts from various specialized sectors and agents involved in the financial field on issues such as inflation, exchange rate and interest rate growth.

In the case of analysts, their projection rose from 2.6% in December to 3.0% this month, while the financial system raised it from 2.5% to 2.6%, according to the Survey of Macroeconomic Expectations prepared by the Central Reserve Bank of Peru.

For 2023, the GDP growth expectations of economic analysts went from 3.0% to 2.5% between December and January; while the financial system raised its estimate of economic expansion for 2023 from 2.5% to 2.7% between both months.

For their part, in January non-financial companies registered growth expectations of 3.0% in 2022 and 3.1% in 2023.

The Peruvian economy is one of the fastest recovering among the main countries in the region, driven by the restart of productive activities, monetary and fiscal stimuli and the favorable international context.
