The debts that different public and private entities have with the Social Health Security (EsSalud) amount to S / 5,159 million. This amount is equivalent to approximately 40% of the institution’s budget for this year.
Only the private sector owes more than S / 3,212 million to EsSalud. On the other hand, the public sector owes S / 1,947 million. Until before the pandemic, the debt of both sectors amounted to S / 4,405 million, so the increase during the state of emergency amounts to S / 754 million.

The executive president of EsSalud, Mario Carhuapoma, assured that the payment of this debt of more than 5 million soles would allow his institution to have more resources to provide a better service. “To improve health services in favor of the more than 11 million insured, even more so in the context of the health emergency generated by COVID-19,” he said.
