Permanent Commission ratifies Julio Velarde as president of the BCRP

With 18 votes in favor, 3 against and 6 abstentions, the Permanent Commission of the Congress of the Republic, ratified the designation of Julio Velarde Flores as president of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP).

In this way, the continuity of Velarde in the monetary entity for a period of five years is specified. The banker must swear before the Judicial Power.

As it is recalled, on October 8, the Executive appointed Julio Velarde as president of the BCRP, which had to be ratified by the Permanent Commission. Roxana Barrantes, Germán Alarco and José Távara are the other economists that the government elected as directors of the financial institution.

Thus, the only thing that would be missing is for the Congress of the Republic to appoint the three corresponding directors, who will replace Elmer Cuba, José Chlimper, and Rafael Rey.
