The announcement was made a few hours after the recent announcement by the President of the Republic, Guillermo Lasso, who indicated that as of today the monthly increases in fuel prices are suspended and that at the same time the price of gasoline would rise extra and ecopaís at $ 2.55 (five cents more than the current price); and diesel at $ 1.90 (21 cents more than the current price). In this way, the monthly band system that had allowed fuel prices to approach international prices is suspended.
The decree was precisely the instruction that fuel distributors were waiting for. Oswaldo Erazo, executive director of the Chamber of Petroleum Derivatives Distributors (Camddepe), had indicated that they could not make any changes until the executive decree is issued corresponding setting the new terminal and sale prices to the public.
