In an act that has the support of almost 60 Basque groups, the Zaldibar Argitu platform will pay tribute to the two workers who died after the landslide next to the landfill.
The Zaldibar Argitu platform will remember this Sunday, February 6, Joaquín Beltrán and Alberto Sololuze, the two workers who died after the detachment of the Zaldibar landfill, two years after the environmental disaster.
In an act that has the support of almost 60 Basque groups, the platform will pay homage next to the landfill to both workers who died buried under the rubble during the collapse of the dump, after a march that will start from Ermua and end in the Eitzaga neighborhood of Zaldibar.
At a press conference, representatives of the Zaldibar Argitu platform have assured today that the death of Alberto and Joaquín, whose body could not be found in the landfill, it was not “an accident”, but a “murder”.
They have explained that it has become clear after the two responsible for the landfill recognized before the Court of Durango that both deaths were a “reckless homicide”which they admitted to avoid “trial and jail”, according to the platform.
In the same way, they have lamented that both deaths could have been avoided by those responsible for the management company of the landfill, Verter Recycling, and the Basque Government itself, having occurred errors in the management of the dump, in the technical projects presented and in their public control.
The platform has also censored that, despite the contamination generated by the dump after its collapse in its immediate surroundings, the Eitzaga neighborhood of Zaldibar, both the City Council of this town and the Basque Government have denied the carrying out medical check-ups on its 37 residents.
