The main objective is the global promotion of rail transport with emission-free green hydrogen.
The group CAF (Construction and Auxiliary Railways) and Iberdrola have formed an alliance to promote the use of green hydrogen in the railway sector and in passenger transport. The agreement has been formalized by Iosu Ibarbia, Director of Technology at CAF, and Millán García-Tola, Director of Green Hydrogen at the electricity company.
This alliance stems from the conviction of both companies to offer comprehensive sustainable mobility solutions, which range from the supply of rolling stock and refueling infrastructure, to green hydrogen production plants and renewable energy infrastructure.
One of the purposes of this agreement is to promote comprehensive solutions that allow the replacement of trains powered by fossil fuels that are used on railway lines with sections that are difficult to electrify without the need to install a catenary or carry out major modifications.
Likewise, it intends to develop the renewable hydrogen value chain with “the high standards of safety, technology and competitiveness in sectors such as railways and passenger transport, helping to drive local companies that develop the technology and productive capacity to be able to promote the transformation of the sector in Spain and compete in the international market”.
