Chicken and fish led price decline in Lima

The consumer price index (CPI) of metropolitan Lima closed in January 2022 with an advance of only 0.04%, the lowest since October 2020 when it grew 0.2%, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI).

The good result, compared to December of last year when inflation rose 0.78%, has been reflected in the drop in the prices of the products with the greatest incidence in the basic family basket.

In this sense, the price of eviscerated chicken fell by -8.0%, bonito fish -17.66% and chicken breast by -5.75%.

Other meats that also fell in price are horse mackerel (-14.3%), smooth (-13.7%), parrot (-10.3%) and mackerel (-10.0%).

Likewise, national airfares and interprovincial bus fares contracted by -29.7% and -12.6%, respectively.

On the other hand, the main products that increased their price in the first month of 2022 were papaya (42.97%), yellow potato (9.73%), lemon (7.38%) and the menu in restaurants (0.90%).

The value of collective car tickets also increased by 2.31%.

According to the INEI, the variation of 0.04% in the CPI of metropolitan Lima was mainly influenced by the variation of prices in restaurants and hotels with 0.74%, followed by recreation and culture (0.47%). , furniture, household items and home maintenance (0.36%) and miscellaneous goods and services with 0.32%. While the behavior of the Transportation division had a negative influence with -1.08%.

In 13 years. Last year the consumer price index for metropolitan Lima was 6.43%, the highest figure since 2008 when it was 6.65%.
