The unemployment rate fell to 8.9% in the Basque Autonomous Community in the third quarter, the lowest since 2010

The unemployment rate has fallen to 8.9% in the third quarter of the year in the Basque Autonomous Community, which is the lowest rate since 2010. In comparison with the second quarter, unemployment has fallen by 1.4%. There are 92,700 unemployed people in Álava, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa as a whole, 15,900 people less than in the previous quarter. Unemployment is reduced both among men (8.8%) and among women (8.9%).

In the third quarter, there were 953,600 people employed in the Basque Autonomous Community (CAV), 9,300 more than the previous quarter. Bizkaia It is the territory where the occupation has grown the most, with 5000 more people employed, ahead of Álava (3000) and Gipuzkoa (1400). Regarding gender, employment has increased more among men (6,600) than among women (2,700). Employment has grown in all sectors except industry where it has decreased by 1700 people.

In almost six out of every ten households, all active people are employed.

On the other hand, Eustat figures in a 3.8% growth in the Basque economy in the third trimester.

The counselor Pedro Azpiazu has valued the “substantial” drop in unemployment in the summer months, but believes that the data will “correct” in the fourth quarter. In addition, he acknowledged that the objectives have not yet been met: “Being below 10% (unemployment) is good, but being much lower is much better.”
