Produce will begin this February 1 training for fishermen affected by oil spill

The Minister of Production (Produce), Jorge Luis Prado Palomino, announced that as of tomorrow, February 1, continuous accompaniment and training will begin for fishermen and artisanal extractors affected by the oil spill that occurred on January 15. at the La Pampilla refinery, on the coast of Ventanilla.

The official pointed out that this is intended to strengthen their knowledge regarding the safety of the product they offer and keep them informed of the results of the actions being carried out by the National Fisheries Health Agency (Sanipes).

Along these lines, the head of Produce also indicated that as part of the inter-institutional actions, Sanipes is coordinating with the US Embassy in Peru to request technical cooperation from the FDA. “This considering the experience of the protocols that have been used in the case of the Gulf of Mexico, which was quite severe,” Prado Palomino mentioned in the Production Commission of Congress.

The minister also pointed out that his portfolio is in coordination with the Ministry of Economy and Finance to authorize a special economic allocation for all affected fishermen. “We are talking about around 2,600 fishermen that we already have determined in our registration,” he explained.

Affected fishermen seek to activate Repsol policy

For his part, Zenón Gallegos Ferrel, representative of the artisanal fishermen of the Port of Chancay, requested that the Government support with food for the common pots of the populations affected by the hydrocarbon spill. In addition, he demanded that a work table be installed in Chancay to address the problem.

Likewise, he requested that the State make technical entities such as OEFA, ANA and Imarpe available to fishermen for monitoring and sampling the damage caused by the ecological disaster.

This with the purpose of allowing those affected to have technical instruments to “support their legal files and file actions against the Repsol company”, in order to activate the company’s insurance policy. “If there is not that, there will be no compensation in relation to these damages,” said Gallegos Ferrel.
