200,000 restaurant jobs would be recovered

The Executive announced the suspension of the mandatory social immobilization schedule (curfew) that has been in force at the national level for 22 months. The objective is to avoid night crowds in public transport and shopping centers, according to the Minister of Health, Hernando Cevallos. However, the measure was also a demand from the economic sectors hardest hit by the pandemic, such as the restaurant industry.

In dialogue with the Republic, Blanca Chavez, representative of Now Peru, He pointed out that with the new provision of the Government, the restaurant subsector will recover its sales by approximately 50%.

For its part, José Luis Silva Martinot, spokesman for the Union of Restaurant Guilds and Associations, stated that the impact will be positive, however, it will vary depending on the category of the establishments.”

:

The most benefited will be the restaurants focused on tourists or executives who come to Peru for work, as well as those in the neighborhood,” he said.

job recovery

Taking into account that the hours will be extended until an estimated 1:00 am, Blanca Chavez He stressed that the elimination of the curfew will mean the recovery of nearly 200,000 jobs.”

We currently have about 800,000 employees, and with the elimination of the curfew we will reach 1 million,” he said.

:

Meanwhile, Silva Martinot commented that the suspension will not have a significant impact on the hiring of new employees due to the limitation in the capacity that is still maintained in restaurants.

Some restaurants, due to limited capacity, do not need to hire more people,” he said.

Currently, the capacity of restaurants with less than 200 m2 in Lima and Callao is 60%. Since the start of the pandemic, this indicator has varied from 40% to 80%.

:

What the unions now demand to speed up their recovery is that this measure be eliminated and only biosafety protocols be taken into account.

”The capacity has no technical basis. The restaurants with the protocol have already reduced the number of people they can serve, “said Silva Martinot.

In this regard, the gastronomic businessman states that the social distance of not less than 1.5 meters between tables established in the health protocol prepared by the Ministry of Health, in practice, already means a reduced capacity in the halls.

Those who also benefited from the reopening of new stores, the delivery service and marketing through social networks.

Tax facilities for the subsector

From the Legislative, the congressman Nano Guerra Garcia of Popular Force announced yesterday through his Twitter account that he met with the head of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Pedro Francke, to address issues such as the reactivation of mypes and the possible reduction of VAT for restaurants and hotels.

:

The parliamentarian’s proposal coincides with the request of the representatives of the gastronomic sectors who point out that it is necessary to eliminate this tax for a period of three years to achieve the 100% reactivation of the item.
