The Council of Ministers today approves the increase in pensions for 2022

Contributory pensions rise by 2.5% this year and minimum and non-contributory pensions by 3%. The Spanish Executive will allocate a total of 6.5 billion euros.

The Council of Ministers will approve this Tuesday the Royal Decree for which the Contributory pensions rise by 2.5% this year and the minimum and non-contributory, 3%, as established by the General State Budget for 2022 and the first leg of the pension reform, in force since January 1.

As announced this weekend by the President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, the Executive will allocate a total of 6.5 billion euros to “dignify” the pensions of the elderly.

This amount includes the cost of the compensatory payment to pensioners for the deviation of prices in 2021 with respect to the initial rise (0.9%) and whose cost exceeds 2,000 million euros.

Contributory pensions rise this year by 2.5% based on the formula contemplated in the pension reform and in which the CPI is taken into account to avoid losses in purchasing power.

With this formula already in force, the compensatory payment for the 2021 price deviation will be the last that pensioners receive, since as of this year their pensions will already are updated with the CPI.

Specifically, this 2.5% increase is the result of the average CPI between December 2020 and November 2021. Passive class pensions also rose 2.5% this year.

For beneficiaries of minimum pensions, non-contributory pensions and Minimum Vital Income (IMV), the increase will reach 3% this year.

With the 2.5% increase in contributory pensions, the minimum pensions of this modality will increase approximately between 10 and 59 euros per month, depending on the type of pension and personal circumstances.

Specifically, the amount of the minimum contributory pension for retirees aged 65 with a dependent spouse will remain at 890.5 euros per month in 14 payments (compared to 851 euros per month in 2021); that of without a spouse (single-person economic unit) at 721.7 euros (689.7 euros previously), and that of with a non-dependent spouse at 685 euros per month (compared to 654.6 euros in 2021).

For retirees under 65 years of age, the minimum contributory pension with a dependent spouse is set for 2022 at 834.9 euros per month (797.9 euros in 2021); without a spouse at 675.2 euros per month (645.3 euros previously), and with a non-dependent spouse at 638.2 euros per month (609.9 euros in 2021).

For its part, the maximum pension of retirement is situated from January 1 in 2,819.19 euros per month for fourteen payments, compared to 2,750.42 euros per month in 2021.

The minimum contributory widowhood pensions will rise this year between 24 and 37 euros per month, depending on the circumstances. Specifically, the minimum widow’s pension for holders with family responsibilities will be 834.9 euros per month, in contrast to the previous 797.9 euros per month.

In the case of being over 65 years of age or having a disability greater than or equal to 65%, the minimum widow’s pension will be 721.7 euros per month, which is 32 euros more than in 2021.

If the holder of the widow’s pension is between 60 and 64 years old, the amount with the new year will be 675.2 euros per month (645.3 euros in 2021), while in the case of beneficiaries under 60 years of age the benefit will be 546.8 euros per month (522.5 euros last year).

For its part, the minimum contributory pension of severe disability This year it rises to 1,335.8 euros per month (1,276.5 euros in 2021) if you have a dependent spouse, and rises to 1,082.6 euros if you do not have a dependent spouse (single-person economic unit), in contrast to the 1034.6 euros from 2021.

The minimum pension for absolute or total disability of holders aged 65 with a dependent spouse will this year be 890.5 euros per month, in contrast to 851 euros last year, while that of those without a dependent spouse ( single-person economic unit) will be 721.7 euros per month (689.7 euros in 2021).

In the case of orphan’s pensions, the minimum amount will rise in 2022 to 220.7 euros per month per beneficiary (in 2021 it was 210.8 euros), while if the beneficiary is under 18 years of age and has a disability greater than or equal to equal to 65%, the amount will be 434 euros per month, 19.3 euros more than in 2021.

The minimum pension for family members will be 220.7 euros per month this year, compared to 210.8 euros last year.
