The number of overnight stays in July, August and September has risen by 81.3% in the hotel establishments of the Basque Autonomous Community.
The hotel establishments of Álava, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa have registered 919,268 tourists this summer, 74.5% more than between July and September 2020, but without reaching the levels prior to the pandemic. It is 8.3% less than in the summer of 2019. The number of overnight stays grew by 81.3%, reaching 1 876 104, compared to the same period last year.
According to data from the Basque Institute of Statistics, Eustat, Bizkaia it has been the territory that has grown the most. Tickets have risen 104.7% (to 404,317) and overnight stays by 106.3% (820,965). Compared with 2019, the figures have suffered a decrease of 15.4% in entries and 14.8% in overnight stays, respectively.
On Álava Tickets rose 84% year-on-year when accounting for 127,212, but fell 3.6% compared to the summer two years ago. Similarly, overnight stays were 89.4% higher than those of the summer of 2020, but 5.3% lower than those of 2019.
On Gipuzkoa, with respect to the same summer months of 2020, the number of entries has risen by 49.1% and the number of overnight stays by 59.7%. If contrasted with the summer of 2019, entries have fallen by 1.1% and overnight stays have done so by 7.8%.
The 33,5 % of the entries correspond to people of foreign origin, compared to 30.5% in the summer of 2020. In the summer of 2019, on the other hand, entries of foreign origin represented 49.7% of the total.
The average stay During the summer of 2021, it was 2.04 days, slightly higher than that observed in the summer of 2020 (1.96 days), although lower than that of the summer of 2019, where it reached 2.10 days.
